Honoring the Haiku
The haiku is a poem that uses compact language to paint a vivid mental image, usually describing everyday subjects such as nature, feelings, or experiences. Important in Japanese culture, a haiku usually has three short, non-rhyming lines: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third.
The 2009 challenge had us find or write a haiku and transform it into a quilt using any method of construction. The quilt could be any shape, but no smaller than 12" and no larger than 36" on a side. |
