2019 Summer Challenge

2019 Summer Challenge
Art in Stitches

This summer’s challenge was inspired by recent visits to the National Gallery in London and the Met in NYC. In keeping with a local tradition “Art in Bloom” at the MFA in Boston, we invite you to join QQ's Summer “Art in Stitches” Challenge.

Pick a favorite painting or sculpture and then create a quilt. Your quilt can be representational, or an inspirational jumping off point from that favorite work of art, but we must be able to see the connection.

You may design this quilt using any method of construction – pieced, appliqué, paper-pieced, or any combination of these, etc. The quilt must have a top, batting and backing. It can be hand or machine quilted. You many embellish it if you wish. It should be no smaller than 8 x 10 inches in width or length and no larger than 24 inches square. It should be made this summer, for this challenge.

Please bring your quilt and a picture (photocopy/post card/photo) of your muse (inspirational painting/sculpture) in an opaque bag to the September 10th meeting.

Have fun and be creative!

Program: What if MacGyver Was a Quilter?

Michelle Banton can't save the world like MacGyver can, but she can help save you time on some of your DIY projects. She will share tips and hacks for quilting and sewing that re-purpose and re-use everyday items that you probably already have around the house. Feel free to bring some of your own ideas to share during Q&A.
