Comfort Quilts
Comfort Quilts is an ongoing activity group of the Quinobequin Quilters Guild. Our commitment to the guild is to donate some of our most beautiful quilts to charity. Members, working alone or in groups, find inspiration from materials provided by the guild, and most often from their own stash of fabrics to create quilts for donation. We create quilts in a range of sizes and styles – from baby blankets to lap and throw sizes for children, teens, and adults.
Each year, the guild devotes a meeting night for members to work together to complete donation quilts. The comfort quilt coordinators also try to organize at least one off-site “work day/fun day” event.
2025-2026 Guild Year:
During the 2025-2026 season, the guild donated 96 beautiful quilts and 18 pillowcases to a variety of organizations, including Project Linus, Women’s Lunch Place, and Beth Israel Deaconess Needham Hospital. The Project Linus organization’s primary recipients are babies, children, and teens undergoing treatment in hospitals; however, the Project Linus also donates to other needy recipients. It is through our relationship with Newbridge on the Charles, that the guild has donated quilts to the Women’s Lunch Place shelter for homeless women.
2026-2027 Guild Year
Quilts:
Our first goal for 2026-2027 is to work through the numerous UFOs (Unfinished Objects, i.e. Quilts) that are in varying stages of completion. These UFOs include kits of blocks that are ready to be sewn together to make a completed topper, and many finished toppers that are ready for pinning, quilting, and binding. Please note that until the backlog is caught-up, we will not be accepting any unfinished quilts. We will happily accept all complete quilts that are ready for turnover. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, we simply do not have storage space.
Also, we ask that you attach the QQ and Project Linus labels to the finished quilt, and launder using unscented detergent so quilts will be ready for use in a hospital setting.
Pillowcases:
Secondly, we have over fifty (50) pillowcase kits ready for sewing. The pillowcases often serve as a duffle to carry personal items for individuals in crisis. Also, a pillowcases is a quick and easy project, and so much faster to make than a quilt! Click on the link to get view a tutorial on how to make a pillowcase, using a “burrito” technique.
