It’s a WONKY World!

 

So many seemed to enjoy last year’s crazy quilt summer challenge that I thought it might be fun to continue that “let loose” feeling. While the outside world is feeling pretty crazy, you can indulge your creativity in this fun summer project—a healthy emotional release!

There are lots of great ideas for wonky quilts online, everything from houses to towns to barnyards. Like a crazy quilt, you can start with an irregular shaped piece in the center and build around it, using freely from your stash. Some may enjoy foundation paper piecing while others may prefer the spontaneity of improv.

This is a “let-your-imagination-run-wild", “anything wonky goes" project, with a few parameters:

• Maximum size not greater than 24” x 24” (96” perimeter), wall-hanging size

• Any shape, but something about it needs to be “wonky” (askew)

• Any colors, fabrics, prints, textures

• Any techniques you care to employ or experiment with

• While stash-busting is gratifying, if you prefer buying something new, please do

• Embellishment of any type is highly encouraged

• It must have a top, batting, backing and binding of your choice.

Please plan to bring your Summer Challenge quilt (the wonkier the quilt, the better!) in an unmarked bag or pillowcase to our September 9, 2025, Fall Welcome-Back Meeting.

 

We would also like to hang all Summer Challenge quilts together at our next show in March 2026.
